Hanover Township is under the jurisdiction of the Butler County Building and Zoning regulations. All construction of permanent outbuildings, garages, pole barns and home additions require building permits and must comply with Butler County Zoning regulations. Zoning violations which may include excessive vegetation, fences, the storage of boats, campers and trailers must be brought to the attention of the zoning inspector for enforcement.

With respect to building activity and permits growth has been slow but the Township has a Land Use Plan which calls for a variety of quality development options in key areas of the Township. In 2018, 13 building permits were issued for various types of totaling $792,075.00 in value. Hanover Township continues to have one of the lowest tax rates in Butler County which combined with the Land Use Plan creates an attractive base for future construction.

Residents interested in installing drain tiles along roadways, change old driveway tiles or pipes or build a new driveway access must apply for and receive a permit prior to work being performed, securing said permit through the Butler County Engineer's Office 513-867-5744. Any work within Township right of way must be reviewed by Hanover Township Road Department 513-896-7800.
